Forewords about  NHS
National Honor Society（美国国家高中荣誉生会），简称NHS，是美国一个全国性的高中社团，意在表彰在学业成绩、领导才能、社区服务及道德品质均有突出表现的高中学生。1921年，美国初中高中校长联合会（National Association of Secondary School Principals，简称NASSP）正式创立这个团体，第一个分会设立于宾夕法尼亚州匹兹堡市。至今，NHS在美国50个州、加拿大、土耳其、智利等国家、地区都有了分会。入选NHS的学生必须在学业成绩、领导才能、社区服务及品德等各方面都全面发展，表现出众。各分会组织首先依据学生的在校成绩挑选候选人，并对这些成绩优秀的学生进行一系列各方面的考察和筛选，最后由分会的一个五人教师议团投票决定是否入选。
The National Honor Society (NHS) is a national high school society in the United States that recognizes high school students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance, leadership, community service, and moral character.In 1921, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) officially founded this group, and the first chapter was established in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. So far, the NHS has branches in all 50 states in the United States, Canada, Turkey, Chile and other countries and regions. Students selected for the NHS must excel in all aspects of academic performance, leadership, community service and character. Each chapter organization first selects candidates based on students' school achievements, conducts a series of examinations and screenings on these high-achieving students, and finally a five-member faculty group of the chapter votes on whether they should be selected.

那具体的入会资格是什么呢？

简而言之，就是NHS的四大支柱：

✅学术

学生的平均学分绩点 GPA 不能低于3.6。

✅服务

学生参加学校或社区的义务服务，学生必须完成 30 小时的志愿活动（义工）才能申请会员资格。

✅领导力

参加至少三项学校课外活动，从学校或社区活动中汲取领导经验，学会与他人合作。

✅品格

品格好的学生具备：

-诚信：没有作弊或故意不诚实的记录事件；

-积极：没有逃课或故意违反学校规定的记录，没有民事犯罪记录。

-合作：愿意协助同学、教员等；

-道德：表现出对他人的礼貌、关心和尊重。

What are the specific eligibility requirements? In short, the four pillars of the NHS are:

✅Academic Ability

should achieve a grade point average GPA no lower than 3.6.

✅Community Service

 To apply for membership, students need to participate in school or community volunteer service and complete 30 hours of volunteer activity (volunteering) 

✅Leadership

Participate in at least three school extracurricular activities, gain leadership experience from school or community activities, and learn to work with others.

✅Character

Students of good character should present the following:

-Integrity: No cheating or intentionally dishonest documented incidents;

-Positiveness: No record of truancy or intentional violation of school rules, no civil criminal record;

-Cooperation: willing to assist students, teachers, etc.;

-Ethics: Show courtesy, care, and respect for others.

The school's IHS Faculty Selection Committee reviews all candidates' applications and makes recommendations.

事实证明，NHS的成员们在长大成人以后，大部分也确实都成为了社会的栋梁之才——美国各行各业的尖端人群中，都能看到前NHS成员的身影。美国前总统Gerald R. Ford，前联合国大使Jeanne Kirk Patrick，奥林匹克男子速滑金牌获得者Dan Jansen等。

It turns out that most of the members of the NHS have indeed become pillars of society when they grow up - former NHS members can be seen among cutting-edge people from all walks of life in the United States. Former U.S. President Gerald R. Ford, former United Nations Ambassador Jeanne Kirk Patrick, Olympic men's speed skating gold medalist Dan Jansen, among others.

Congratulations to the current class of  NHS member students of the International Department of Shenzhen Nanshan Weiming School, and sincerely congratulate everyone on the overall improvement in academic, leadership, service and character. Looking forward to more students joining the excellent team.

我们很高兴今年有很多优秀的学生可考量，我们选择授予9名优秀学生荣誉生奖。美高荣誉生会不仅奖励GPA高的学生，还奖励在其他领域取得成就的学生。我们期望学生明白，在学术领域之外还有更高的责任；我们殷切期盼他们在未来的社区中展现领导力量。我们很荣幸今年有这样优秀的他们！
Beyond academics

We are glad to have many good students this year and we have chosen to award 9 of them with a superior distinction: an NHS award. NHS does not only reward students with a high GPA, but also with a proven achievement in another field. We want our students to understand that there are superior responsibilities beyond the field of academics and that they will be expected to take leadership position in their future communities.  We are honored to have such students this year!
