Let Your Light Shine - BSB Sanlitun Celebrated World Children's Day
On Monday 20th November, the whole school celebrated World Children’s Day with various activities, led by our fantastic students –
• KS2 House Captains ‘took over’ Year 1 lessons for 20 minutes to play maths games and read stories;
• Sports Captains ‘took over’ KS1 PE lessons for a day;
• Student Council members led a ‘take-over’ assembly all about the power of inclusion and ran a pop-up event to write messages of inclusion in chalk outside the library;
• BLUE LANTERNS OF INCLUSION – all students made a blue lantern and wrote a SDG10 message on them which were hung up on display in the playground.
Every voice matters - well done everyone!

This week the Reception children have been looking at a fantastic fairytale, 'The Little Red Hen'.
In Literacy, the children focused on some key vocabulary: hen, cat, rat, pig, farm, plant, corn, grow, flour, bread and butter. It was amazing to see the children using their phonic knowledge to read and write words from the story.
We then had a go at retelling the story and acting it out in our small world areas. Some children even wanted to make their own bread. What a wonderful treat!

In Year 2, we learn many Computing skills such as typing, coding and online safety. Our unit at the moment is Computer Art and it’s been a great opportunity for the children to show the ‘Creative’ Learner Ambition.
Each lesson, we look at a particular artist or style of art and then the children use the iPad or laptop to practise the skill. At the beginning of Year 2, we looked at many of the same artists and the children learnt lots of skills such as how to mix colours, create shades, tints and what colours are warm or cold. These skills were useful in our most recent lesson where we explored the work of Claude Monet, a French artist, who likes to show the same picture in both warm and cold colours to evoke different emotions.
The children were then challenged to colour the same picture two times but in contrasting ways. They thought carefully about the warm and cold colours that they know and selected different shades of these colours to distinguish each part of their picture. It’s been great to see the children applying their skills during these lessons and we can’t wait to see more masterpieces this term!
Have you ever tried to create art on your computer or iPad? If you haven’t, Year 2 highly recommend it!

Year 5 have been learning all about Space in their science lessons.
They have been learning about geocentric and heliocentric theories and have created their own models.
They have also been busy making models of sports equipment that astronauts could use in space to stay active.

To celebrate World Children’s Day, this week we let the Year 6 Sports Captains come take over our PE lessons for one day, and they did an absolute fantastic job helping to deliver parts of the lesson.
It was amazing to see their COMMITMENT and COLLABORATION as they helped work together with numerous classes giving feedback and advice to their younger peers on how to improve during different activities.
In Key Stage 1, students have been working hard on improving their hand eye coordination and gross motor skills. They have practised many different ball skills such as bouncing, throwing, catching, dribbling, and have even had mini competitions with each of their classmates.
Key Stage 2 are nearing the end of their ultimate frisbee unit as they prepare for a House competition next week. Which House will be victorious? We’ll find out next week!
