When the children started on their first day of the new school year, they still felt like Nursery children coming to explore their new environment. However, after two full weeks, we can say with confidence that our new year group are already acting and behaving like real Reception children!

Meeting old friends and making new ones has been an important part of the last two weeks, and the compassion the children have shown in the classroom and on the playground to each other has been lovely to see. It is also great to see how enthusiastic the children have been exploring all the new sensory, maths, language, art and literacy activities during their free flow between the classrooms.

A highlight this week has been the fun games we have been playing during our circle times to promote confidence, language and listening!

What a wonderful start back to school it has been for the Year 1 children!

In the past two weeks, we have based our learning around on the story ‘Pete the cat rocking in my school shoes’. To begin this topic, we had a special box. Inside the box, we found different items such as, school shoes, pens, paper and a school uniform. The Year 1s made some brilliant guesses about what our topic story would be. Following this activity, we read the story and sang a song all about rocking in our school shoes. We discussed how it felt to start a new school year and what we could do to make school fun and exciting. Every class made some amazing guitars that were taken on our special hunt to find Pete the Cat who was hiding around the school. We found him in the playground, the Performing Arts class, in the lunch hall and in many other places.

This week we have begun to write sentences all about Pete the cat. We discussed what Pete likes to wear, what he likes to eat and what special activities he enjoys doing. The children were very enthusiastic and they used their creative skills to write amazing sentences that even included adjectives! To end our week, we made our very own Petes, out of toilet tubes.

Using this story, our Year 1s have really enjoyed coming back to school and very quickly learnt how to handle their emotions, make new friends, and become more independent. Well done Year 1. We can not wait to see what the rest of the year brings!

This week in Year 4 the children have been taking responsibility for their own learning. Having learnt how to use a search engine effectively they applied their Curiosity Learner Ambition to research different time periods throughout history.

Following on from this, the children focused specifically on researching Roman history and ‘What the Romans did for us?’ The children were amazed to discover that it is the Romans that we have to thank for toilets and fast food! This introduction to our topic Rocking Romans has sparked an interest and curiosity in the children, who can now not wait to find out more!

In this week's PE lesson, we continued to conduct basic track and field classes for KS1 students and advanced football classes for KS2 students and also, it is worth mentioning that this Tuesday we opened the first outdoor class of this term.

The first four weeks of each term are often the biggest challenge, as students readjust from vacation mode back to school mode. As students grow physically and mentally, their physical fitness increases, their athletic abilities improve and their understanding of sports also changes. Therefore, for younger year groups, we start from basic sports skills such as running and jumping and try to improve their skills through games and other fun activities so that they can continue to improve and cultivate their interest in happiness. For KS2 students, we were very happy to be able to open the first outdoor class at SIDE park this week, and the unit of study was Football. The larger field allows students to play freely and apply their football knowledge they have learned before. Everyone was exited and got involved and it was also a surprise to see that many of them had made a significant improvement since last term.

It’s always rewarding to see the happy smiles from our students and gratifying for us to feel the charm of sports and that through sports, students from different countries and cultural backgrounds are integrated together
