Mr Andy Clapperton joined YCIS Pudong in 2018.

Mr Clapperton grew up in the Northwest of England. After finishing high school, he took a gap year working as a volunteer teacher in Cuba. Mr Clapperton then returned to complete a degree in Spanish and Portuguese at University of Cambridge. In search of a new challenge, and already bitten by the travel bug, he took up a position at China University of Geosciences in Beijing. Aside from a three-year stint in London, he has remained in China since then.

Mr Clapperton has a great love for the outdoors, and in particular, cycle touring. This started in 2005 when he decided to pedal from Beijing to London with a friend, and he has been hooked ever since. He has brought his passion into his professional life by launching and leading the International Award at a previous school. He encourages students to be genuine risk-takers by leaping out of their comfort zone.

As founder and trustee of The Peace Centre Uganda, Mr Clapperton is also a great believer in the value of service as a formative process. He has spearheaded many service activities and education trips in recent years.
