Such a fun day! Year 1 recently went on their school trip to Beijing World Park where they got the chance to see some of the landmarks that they have been learning about as part of their 'Buildings Around the World' topic.
Our school's weekly newsletter, features information on the week's learning, student achievements and special events in our school. Here please find an overview of our latest issue.
his week in Nursery we explored the topic of autumn. Through reading the story of ‘Leaf Man’, a tale about the changing leaves of autumn which are blown everywhere by the cool autumn wind, the children were able to learn more about colours, and how the leaves change to different colours during autumn.
They sang songs about autumn, and we danced like swaying leaves in the wind. We took walks to collect the falling leaves, listening to the sound of leaves in the wind, reiterating parts of the story, watching how the wind moves the leaves through the air and wondering where those leaves would land. The children of nursery had the opportunity to have a closer look at autumn leaves using magnifying glasses, crushing them in their hands to hear the sound as well as feel the texture of the different leaves.
With the celebration of Halloween, the children of Early Years had a costume dress up day and came to school in various costumes, from princesses to pirates. They were given the opportunity to show their costumes and ask questions about the costumes of others. We had several Halloween activities such as pumpkin making, spooky potion brewing, autumn tree painting and spooky face painting.
On Tuesday 31st October, Year 1s came into school in their Halloween outfits, which all looked amazing!
Throughout the day, the children engaged with a range of spooky Halloween-themed activities with each of the Year 1 teachers. The children worked hard to use their fine motor skills and creativity to complete different Halloween activities.
They made cotton wool ghosts, string mummies, pumpkin lanterns, cotton bud skeletons and even did some ghost bowling! They had a great time completing all of these activities. What an exciting and memorable day for the Year 1s!
Recently the Year 5 students have been experimenting with one of the core elements of art: Value.
Through the use of water colours, the students expressed their amazing creativity. The theme of the paintings tied in with the Autumn term theme of Space. The students created wonderful pieces of unique artwork. Have a look for yourself!
This has been a wonderful, magical week.
In Year 1 native group, you can see ‘Harry Potter’ seriously practising pinyin writing, ‘Lotso’ and ‘Mario’ reading Chinese tongue twisters, and witches and vampires practising reading the correct pinyin tones.
The children in Year 4 non-native group used Lego to build 3D Chinese characters of “万圣节” (Halloween), showing their imagination and creativity. After listening to the story of ‘Elmer’, Reception children also shared what they thought a unique elephant would look like.
